If you're an Apple user who finds themselves eagerly anticipating the next iteration of OSX, then you'll be happy to know that not only is Lion out, but it's a few updates in and well into its stride as the next step in the ongoing evolution of the Apple computer platform. But what are the new features?
1) More Touchpad gestures. Do you use finger-gestures to do anything from hide your programs to read books? Then you're in luck - whether you're browsing through o2.co.uk to pay your bills or you're quickly hiding everything to get to a file on your desktop, it's an ideal setup for those who want intuitive functionality without endless clicking and keystrokes. 2) Launchpad. Love the iOS grid of apps? Well, OSX has this as well - just hit the Launchpad icon on your Dock, and you'll find a neatly-arranged grid of icons to choose from. There are multiple pages within Launchpad, and you can shift and change things to have it look just how you want it to. It also makes for a far neater dock, but many stick with traditional methods, or Spotlight - given how simple and effective the latter is. 3) Fullscreen mode. If you've ever wanted the full-screen luxury that Word 2011 has been offering for around a year now, then you can't go far wrong with Lion's Fullscreen approach. All your software looks fantastic, and it allows you to focus more on one piece at a time, rather than watching your dock icons bounce all over the place (though Growl is still an option, one would assume, or hope). These are obviously just three, and the rest - upgraded Time Machine functionality, screenshots, per-user screen-sharing, video rotation in Quicktime, Preview, documents and programs opening where you left them when they closed, and Mission Control are just several more on a long list. So check it out, and enjoy it. |
